Reflection 2023

It is Calm Here

There is a calm here
And not one that soothes
From my perch atop the mountains
I grow uneasy
Many a time have I gazed on this very road
This artery that teemed with restlessness
So much so that I wished its life’s blood ceased

Now, I grow uneasy
It is a calm eerie
A calm disquietingly quiet
It feels haunted even
It is haunted, but not by demons
Demons would be easier to accept
Terrors within the belly of Hades we will comprehend

We grow uneasy
We grow restless amidst the calm
Haunted by the specter of a society
That cannot shake the shackles of inequity
That cannot foster the flames of fraternity
It always comes before a storm, such calm
I grow uneasy.
